Paddington director Paul King is reportedly in final negotiations to take on Warner Bros.’ in-development Roald Dahl reimagining, Willy Wonka.
Little is known of the project as it currently stands, save for it tackling possible origin elements of the character immortalised on screen by Gene Wilder in 1971 and Johnny Depp in 2005. The owner of the mysterious and otherworldly Wonka chocolate factory, the character appeared in both Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as its sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator – the latter having never been adapted for the screen.
Pixar and Saturday Night Live alum Simon Rich has penned the screenplay for the new take on the character, which David Heyman will produce.
