It’s a big day for those awaiting Legendary Pictures’ forthcoming sequel to Pacific Rim; with the kaiju-smashing second instalment being given a release date and a second potential new star to serve alongside the recently announced John Boyega.
Deadline report that the genre studio is staking out none other than Scott Eastwood for a role in the sequel, his role unclear at present. What is known is that Boyega will play the son of Idris Elba’s departed Marshall Stacker Pentecost in the Steven S. DeKnight-directed feature, with the assumption around the time of his casting being that he would serve as the new lead. Whether that remains the case in light of Eastwood’s potential casting is unknown.
Eastwood has become something of a rising star in the past couple of years, putting in an impressive performance in Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Longest Ride before joining the ranks of Universal’s Fast 8 and Open Road’s Oliver Stone-directed biopic Snowden. He’ll next be seen this coming summer in Warner’s DCEU offshoot, Suicide Squad.
The presently untitled sequel (previously rumoured to be named Pacific Rim: Maelstrom) is now officially set to land on February 23rd, 2018. DeKnight directs, with Legendary founder Thomas Tull and Guillermo del Toro producing.
