Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman goes theatrical in China

Martin Scorsese’s big-budget Netflix collaboration, The Irishman, looks set to see a full theatrical release after all. In China.

The feature – which stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and Harvey Keitel – was already set for a limited theatrical run in both the UK and US (thus qualifying for awards contention), but will now see full theatrical distribution in China courtesy of STX Entertainment and Media Asia, the former also handling streaming rights for the region.

STX have eyed the feature in the past, going so far as to offer $50m for the international rights to the project at Cannes two years ago, and prior to Netflix eventually landing the project.
