Lionsgate’s big screen reboot of the Power Rangers franchise won’t arrive for another nine months yet but already talk is swirling about the possibility of a sequel. Or, more precisely, sequels.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has revealed, during the company’s annual analyst and invested conference call, that the studio envisions not just one but many sequels to the series; stating: “We are really really excited about the Power Rangers movie. We could see doing five or six or seven.”
With the longevity and sustained popularity of the Power Rangers franchise seeing it currently in its twenty-third year, the notion of the film series continuing to the extent of seven features is, at the very least, plausible. Working in the studio’s favour in this regard is a return to the origins of the franchise’s continuity – the story following the original Rangers introduced in 1993 and thus allowing an entirely new audience to board the series accordingly.
Starring Dacre Montgomery, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler and Elizabeth Banks; Project Almanac’s Dean Israelite directs Power Rangers – set to be released on March 24th.
