The actor will join Joaquin Phoenix, who is set to portray the clown prince of crime, as well as Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, and Zazie Beetz.
According to sources close to the production, Maron will portray a talent agent on De Niro’s character’s talk show, who plays an instrumental part in booking Phoenix’s comedian-slash-terrorist-to-be and driving him mad. The picture is set to be a liberal interpretation of one of the iconic comic book character’s many origin stories. Batman will not appear.
Joker is currently eyeing a 4th October, 2019 release date, having been fast-tracked into production by Warner Bros. Insiders have been quick to stress that the project will not be a part of the DCEU (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League, etc.), where Jared Leto is still signed on to play the role.
