Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett is set to join the Mission: Impossible series as the director of the CIA in the forthcoming sixth instalment.
Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie – the first returning helmer in the franchise’s history – the sixth movie will be the first to not feature Jeremy Renner since his introduction in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in 2012. Tom Cruise is back however, as are Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, and Rogue Nation villain Sean Harris.
Bassett previously played the CIA director in the fourth season of JJ Abrams’ Alias, the director helming his own instalment of the series – 2006’s Mission: Impossible III – only a year later. Alec Baldwin previously played the role, though ended Rogue Nation with his character transitioning instead to becoming the director of the newly reinstated IMF.
Mission: Impossible 6 is set for a release on July 27th, 2018.
