Iconic musician Lionel Richie has landed the rights to produce a feature film film biopic of legendary singer and songwriter, Curtis Mayfield.
Starting writing songs at age 11, Mayfield went on to pen more than 1,900 songs such as It’s All Right and Keep on Pushin’, as well as joining The Impressions at age 14. He also scored numerous films across his career, including the iconic blaxploitation movie, Superfly.
Paralysed from the neck down when a piece of stage lighting equipment fell on him during an outdoor concert in 1990, Mayfield would continue composing and recording until his death nine years later.
Richie’s RichLion Productions will spearhead the feature film biopic, with the singer having acquired the rights from the Curtis Mayfield Estate.
