Legendary composer John Williams will officially return to the Star Wars series to close out the Skywalker saga with the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX.
“I would very much like to complete that,” Williams said of the series he has been a part of for now more than forty years. To date, the famed composer has worked every episode of the series, stepping aside only for recent spin-off Rogue One and the forthcoming Solo.
Williams also used the opportunity to address recurring stories surrounding his potential retirement, explaining: “I don’t think you can retire from writing. I feel very lucky, and the work that I do doesn’t depend on much. If your vision’s still good, and your hands – I have no arthritis in my hands and I play the piano very easily – I don’t think there’s any reason to deprive oneself of the fun of working. Music is so rewarding.”
Despite not being involved in the scoring fo the film, Williams will however provide the theme for Solo, with Star Wars: Episode IX set to open on December 20th, 2019.
